Who we are....

We're a friendly social badminton club that caters for all non-competitive
standards.

AIMS: The aim of the Tuesday Club, for both adults and juniors, whatever
their playing level, is to have fun and improve their game and fitness as a
result. We will run various coaching sessions and mini-tournaments from
time to time. We have very few rules but politeness and fair play is a
by-word of all sports and ours is no exception. We treat each other and
the equipment with respect and try and help each player get an equal
amount of time on court.

WHEN?: The Club runs throughout the year at The Cooper School in
Bicester, Oxfordshire , unless the hall is unavailable due to exams or other school functions. The school is manned by Cherwell Council employed staff who are first aiders and responsible for security and suitability of the site.
NOTE TO PARENTS: As a mixed age-group club within a multi-use sports facility, we advise that parents of U18’s ensure their child is left with one of the responsible adults and collected punctually. Please see your child into the sports hall, and pick them up from there at the end. We do not recommend children to wait alone in the car park and cannot take any responsibility once they have left the hall.

If you feel like coming along, you can just turn up on the night and ask for Paul, Neil or Chris, the responsible adults, who are DBS checked.

OUR HISTORY: Bicester Badminton Tuesday Club grew from a group of friends from Orchard Baptist Church who used to book a court weekly at the Leisure Centre back in the early 90s. This grew to two courts then it became too onerous to keep booking at the stroke of 9am each morning 6 days prior to the event just to get the courts we wanted, and they wouldn’t let us do a block booking. However Cooper School had their Sports and Performance halls built in around 1999 and we managed to secure regular courts there, where we were soon able to spread onto all 4 courts. Gradually, hardly any church players attended but members of the public found it brilliant to be able to just turn up and play, so in 2016 the church handed over management to David and Paul (regular Tuesday night players), with Bea (an original founding member and organiser) staying on. The club continues to evolve, whilst keeping costs down, as we have discovered Badminton England who give support in the running of a club, and highlight pathways of progression for promising young players as well opportunities to watch elite players in international tournaments. The Club liaises closely with the Bicester Badminton Club, who play on Friday nighs at the Leisure Centre which caters for League badminton and members have been shared across both clubs. In addition, Orchard Baptist Church continues to use Cooper School for their 10:30am Sunday services to which all players are welcome.
