2024
Tuesdays have become very busy, particularly in the first hour. We have therefore extended the evening by half an hour to 10pm beginning this Tuesday 5th March. We will split the Tuesday into two parts: Learners being coached from 7-8pm and adults and capable teenagers from 8-9:55pm.
The younger/beginner players (and accompanying adults) can come from 7-8pm, with more space available for decent games and coaching. This may be particularly valuable for DofE or GCSE assessments. Any playing parents can play on court 4, or help with coaching their children.
After 8pm learners can continue being coached/playing on court 1 and incoming adults and older capable teens can book in for their session from 8pm on the remaining 3 courts. Some older/better learners will be mixed in as at present.
We believe these changes will give people less waiting time and better value for money. We are hoping to give this a trial and see how well it goes and tweak it as necessary. Any comments are welcome.
If anyone is interested in assisting with coaching and running novelty games and drills to enhance our beginners’ experience, that would be very welcome too.

2023
5th September: Our lovely David has stepped down after 7 years sterling service and he will be sorely missed !
Generally:
When we pause for exams, alternate play may be booked at the Leisure Centre for those interested.
Play should resume at Cooper School now from July to December uninterrupted, all being well.

2022
We now have an extra night added to compliment our Tuesday night. Wednesday will cater to our more experienced players and Tuesday will remain for coaching, instruction and improving our up and coming players.

August
We have now started to sell black Yonex grips for £2 each and this includes fitting!

2021
December
Our last session of year is on 14th December, where we'll have soft drinks, sweets and a jolly good Christmastime! Grab your Christmas jumpers/t-shirts/socks and join us for an enjoyable night of badminton and some great social company!!

July
We are hoping to start badminton at the Cooper School on the 7th September 2021! Please let us know if you would like to attend as we can then start to book courts. We all look forward to meeting and playing with you again!!

January
Well we're still in Covid lockdown and it's been such a long time. We hope you are all coping well in the circumstances. We'll let you know when our badminton can start again but it's not looking like it's going to be soon! Stay safe and we wish you all a happier New Year.

2020
September
Great news; it's possible that we may start playing badminton at Cooper School in September, with the proviso that we stay in bubbles of six players on a court and we only have two courts to ensure social distancing. There will be other restrictions to consider but we will notify everyone when we have more definite information from Cherwell District Council.

2019
We have purchased a JBL Bluetooth speaker, so we can now play all of our favourite tunes. If you have a play list (that doesn't have expletives!) just let us know and we'll hook you up to the speaker. Great fun and singalong all night long!!

2018
We have introduced a new accompanied child rate. We hope this will encourage parents to stay and play with their children - and of course enjoy the experience social badminton can bring!

So the revised rates are;
Adult waged = £5
Adult waged + 1 x U18 = £7
Adult waged + 2 U18's = £9
Adult waged + 3 U18's = £11
Adult unwaged = £4
U18 waged = £4
U18 unwaged = £3

In addition, we have extended the session to 9.30pm due to our popularity and the increased numbers that are playing. So now you get more badminton for the same price - and we have no plans to increase prices!!

We will continue to offer a free session after attending the 10th and 25th session, to say 'thanks' to our regulars!

April
We raised an amazing £210 at our latest Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Saturday 14th April,
with huge thanks to all who helped on the day!

Improving your game:Who would be interested in an 8-week “Essentials” badminton course
(serving, grip, footwork, clears, drops, smash etc)? or competing competitively with a different
club or school team? That edge of competition will be fun and help raise your game for those
who wish to. In the course of the year we will run our own mini tournaments amongst ourselves Let us know if you are interested in any of this.
We will need sufficient numbers and possibly arrange additional court time depending on response.
The Bunnings Sausage Sizzle we ran on Saturday, 13th January was very well received and we had great fun. We raised £140 - in the depths of Winter - for our club and took a lot of inquiries from potential new players. So we certainly raised our profile, and we'd like to run another Sizzle in the near future!
